Objectives: Our goal was to refine upon the methods of treatment and rejuvenation by way of combination including classical treatment and fetal stem cells (FSCs) administered in suspensions containing fetal liver cells, cells of fetal brain as well as fetal connective tissue.
Materials and methods: 126 persons were involved into our study divided into 2 groups: the patients of the 1st group (67 persons including 40 women of average age 42.35 ± 0.78 and 27 men of mean age 44.16 ± 0.69 years) were administered FSCs during 3 days. Suspensions of fetal liver were administered (2 to 5 mL per 200.0 mL saline solution) for 60 min on treatment day 1. Treatment day 2 suggested use of suspensions of FSCs extracted from placenta from 4 to 6 mL s.c. injected to the anterior abdominal wall. Suspensions containing connective tissue cells administered in the anterior abdominal wall (2.5 to 4 mL). The patients of the 2nd group (59 persons under study, including 28 women of average age 43.21 ± 0.81 years and 31 men of mean age by 42.21 ± 0.72 years) were additionally performed cosmetology procedures in the region of face and décolleté with application of chorion extract onto provisionally prepared facial skin in volume of 2 mL, followed by plotting with special thermo-mask on the face.
Results: The authors proved effectiveness and safety of treatment by FSCs in persons undergoing therapy for rejuvenation. Significant improvement of hormonal status and levels of electrolytes was recorded under this study. In the 2nd group esthetician noticed a significant improvement of skin in the region of face and décolleté already over 3 months after FSCs administration.
Conclusion: FSCs use in complex treatment of patients as antiaging and rejuvenation strategies improves hormonal background and skin general appearance in the region of face and décolleté.

Mridvika Narda*, Sonia Aladren, Enza Cestone and Vincenzo Nobile

Background: Hair loss in both men and women can be a psychologically stressful condition. Dietary insufficiency of essential micronutrients has been associated with hair health and hair loss.
Objective: The aim of this clinical trial was to investigate the safety of use and the efficacy of a food supplement containing L-cystine, Serenoa repens, Equisetum extract, zinc, and vitamins (Lambdapil® Anti Hair Loss capsules, ISDIN, Provençals, Barcelona, Spain) in improving hair loss in both women and men.
Patients/Methods: Men with androgenic alopecia and women with acute telogen effluvium were randomized to receive two capsules per day of the test product or the placebo product during a 6 months treatment period. Hair resistance to pulling and count were measured in women and men, respectively, by pull testing and phototrichogram. The overall hair volume and overall hair appearance were assessed before and after the treatment as were subject’s self-assessment via a standardized questionnaire.
Results: In women, the number of hairs removed in the pull test decreased earlier for test product treated group over the 6-month period with a significantly greater decrease (p<0.05) for the treated group (12.9 at baseline vs. 6.5 hairs at 6 M) compared to the placebo group (12.8 at baseline vs. 8.8 hairs at 6 M). For men, the anagen/telogen ratio increased in the Lambdapil® treated group by 23.4% over baseline (1.93 vs. 2.36 at baseline and 6 M, respectively) indicating that there were more hair in the growing phase vs. placebo treated group (1.81 vs 1.75 at baseline and 6 M, respectively; p<0.05). The hair volume and aspect in Lambdapil® treated group improved at 1, 3 and 6 months significantly more than placebo group (p<0.05). The treatment was well tolerated.
Conclusion: Dietary supplementation with Lambdapil® Anti Hair Loss capsules for 6-months was safe and effective in both women and men suffering from hair loss.

Nicola Venturo and Giovanni Suffritti

Objective: The aim of study is to evaluate the effectiveness of polydatin in improving dermatological signs and symptoms.
Methods: Included 110 adult patients, also with lesions on the trunk and limbs: 64 with atopic dermatitis, 25 with seborrheic dermatitis of the face and 21 with eczema of face or eyelids. All patients applied in the morning and in the evening the hypoallergenic cream with polydatin 1.5% or body formulation with polydatin 0.8% in relation to the area of the lesion to be treated, also using the cleaning formulation for normal daily cleaning.
Results: The patients showed a reduction of variable degree of lesions and subjective dermatological symptoms, such as itching, erythema, xerosis, lichenification of the skin and eczematous lesions.
Conclusion: The use of topical cream and cleanser restores the function of the skin barrier, counteracts the action of irritants or allergens, reduces the local inflammatory response, and eliminates the itching and scratching.

Ng KF, Norazirah MN, Mazlin MB, Adawiyah J, and Shamsul AS

Background: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a common hair disorder which affects the patients’ psychology and social activities. Despite being the most prevalent alopecia in Malaysia, there are limited studies examining its psychological impact and patient’s perception on AGA. This study assessed these effects and determined their contributing factors in AGA patients.
Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted involving all AGA patients attending dermatology clinics at two tertiary centers. Psychological impact was assessed using Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Patient’s perception was assessed using Visual Analog Scale (VAS).
Results: Sixty male patients and 41 female patients were recruited. The median age of patients was 29 years. The ethnic composition was Malay (30.7%), Chinese (34.7%) and Indian (34.6%). More females experienced mild AGA-related anxiety and depression compared to males (P<0.001). Young (age<40 years) and single individuals experienced more anxiety and depression than older, married patients (P<0.001). Patients who adopted coping strategies reported more anxiety (P=0.002) and depression (P<0.001) compared to those who were not using any coping strategy. Women were more dissatisfied with their hair condition (VAS score=4 [3])) compared to men (VAS score=5 [3]; P=0.002).
Conclusion: AGA impairs patients’ psychology and affects their self-perception. Age less than 40 years old, female, unmarried, disease duration less than 4 years and adopting coping strategies were significant factors influencing the psychological impact and perception in AGA patients. Hence, early integration of psychological support to treatment of AGA is recommended.

Polydatin and Atopic Dermatitis in Adults: Clinical Study

Giuseppe Maria Izzo and Giovanni Suffritti

Objective: Verify the clinical efficacy of polydatin applied topically, associated or not with systemic administration of polydatin, on the cutaneous manifestations of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis and check patients' adherence to treatment through a simple evaluation sheet filled in by the investigator and by the patient at baseline and after 7, 14, 30 and 60 days.
Methods: Included 128 patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis, with lesions on face, on trunk and/or limbs. In 64 of them (age: mean+SEM 35.73+1.03 years - range 18 to 52 years, 33 males and 31 females) a topical cream and a cleanser, both polydatin based were prescribed, while in 64 others (age: mean+SEM 35.75+1.37 years - range 16 to 58 years, 34 males and 30 females) an oral supplement containing 40 mg polydatin was added.
Results: An important reduction of variable degree of lesions and subjective symptoms of atopic dermatitis, such as itching, erythema, xerosis, lichenification of the skin and eczematous lesions has been observed.
Conclusion: The use of topical cream and cleanser associated with oral administration of polydatin tablets restores the function of the skin barrier, counteracts the action of irritants or allergens, reduces the local inflammatory response, and eliminates the itching and scratching.

Alopecia Universalis Hair Regrowth with Hormones

Melanie Tawfik, Nica N Sabouni, Hannah Pederson, Natasha Mesinkovska

Alopecia areata (AA) is a chronic, immune-mediated, non-scarring alopecia that causes patches of hair loss, typically on the scalp and face. Alopecia universalis (AU) is a severe form of AA that involves complete hair loss on the scalp and body. Although the genetics and immune pathogenesis have been recently better described, the exact cause and effective therapies remain unclear. We describe a case of a man with long-standing AU that regrew hair after supplementation with testosterone, chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and DHEA-S.
